Slights are given everyday, and even in the smallest ways, no matter who you are. If you stand up for what you believe in, the slights simply tend to be worse. I wanted the colors and creations of my pieces to represent struggles, while also representing looking past those struggles. Life is about solutions and moving forward. I made pieces that were red and blue in order to reflect on how my Puerto Rican heritage relates to America, since Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States of America. My Puerto Rican and Italian culture is what helps me dive so deeply into the real world. I made my “804” and “757” plaques to represent the places that helped shape me. I made certain pieces that reflect upon pain and protection to reflect my Italian heritage. Life is about taking advantage of opportunities and growing with those opportunities. My work tells a story that revolves around me truly understanding who I am. A story that I want people to ponder upon. It is about representing myself! Representing myself is what pushed me to be creative. Ponder upon my work, not the words.
